Mount
Olivet
Mount Olivet is conveniently located
on the south bound service road to
IH 45 at Hughes Road, Dickinson. See
the map. Take
a tour.
If coming from Houston or League
City area take Exit 19 (Hughes
Rd. /Dickinson). Continue
south across FM517 and Dickinson Bayou.
The big brick entrance gate is plainly
visible just before the Hughes Rd.
overpass (concept of Risen Christ
entrance). Drive along the entrance
road past the office (colonel bldg
on the left side). The drive will
open to the Cemetery proper.
The first view to the right is the
Memorial to the Unborn,
(contains burials from local Catholic
hospitals) donated by the Knights
of Columbus.
The Saint Bernadette
Garden is on the left side of the
road. The road curves to the Sacred
Heart Shrine Circle. The second road
to the right from the circle leads
by the lake to the Chapel Mausoleum.
On the right is the Holy
Rosary Garden (concept drawing).
On the left is St. Anthony
Garden with the St. John
Theologian Greek Orthodox spaces bordering
on the circle road.
Mount Olivet with
Mediterranean olive trees is on the
left. The Mount Olivet chapel mausoleum
is at the right side of the road.
To the left and at the foot of Mount
Olivet, along side the west bank of
the lake is the Knights of Columbus
feature (concept). From the circle
the third road is the continuation
of the main drive of the Cemetery.
The road leads through the Cemetery
to the Altar
Circle. Saint
Bonaventure is the first Garden on
the left side of the road.
The
Saint Anthony Garden
is on the right side. The Saint Anthony
Cremation Garden is above the south
end of the lake. As you drive by the
mausoleum road the Saint
Catherine Garden
is on the right side and the Saint
Dominic Garden is on
the left.
The next interGarden is the future
Way
of the Cross Circle.
The right side of the approach to
the altar is the Saint
Edith Stein Garden
and the left side is the Saint
Gregory the Great Garden.
Centered on the Altar Circle is the
grand marble altar capped with the
beautiful bronze crucifixion scene.
The cross marks the center
of the Cemetery property
from Dickinson Bayou to Holland Road.
The left side when facing the altar
is the current resting place reserved
for Archdiocesan priests.
Future development
(altar concept) will introduce landscaped
gardens with spaces for lay faithful
to be near their beloved priests in
wait of that great day when body and
soul join in communion with Christ.
